What is solar decommissioning?
Solar decommissioning is the process of removing and replacing an existing solar array that has reached the end of its useful life. The process involves deconstructing and removing the solar panels and making the land or roof ready for redevelopment by returning it to its original state.
The PV system may need to be decommissioned due to system failure, the expiration of a site lease or incentives, the desire of the client to upgrade to newer technology, or to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations. When a rooftop PV system is decommissioned, the roof may also need to be repaired or replaced.
REfurbishment, reCYCLING, AND REPLACEMENT
There are many reasons that a solar PV system is being decommissioned. One of the least common reasons is that the PV system has reached the end of its useful life and must be recycled. In most cases, the panels are still in good working condition and can be given a second life through refurbishment and re-sale or donation.
Repurposing used modules will allow them to continue to produce clean energy as they were expected to do for 25+ years.

solar Repowering
Solar repowering is a process that involves replacing old PV modules, inverters, trackers, and transformers with new ones. It can also include the addition of batteries, or a change to the layout of the array. Every system is different, and at Pfister Energy we will evaluate the solar array, as well as the goals of our client, to ensure that the right process is being completed for the project.

Re-roofing is commonly done alongside a solar installation. When you combine a solar power system with a new roof, there is no need to worry about replacing your roof over the lifetime of the solar system.
Pfister Energy specializes in roof replacement and restoration, and we also provide removal and replacement of roofs with existing installed solar panels. We can remove solar panels, replace the entire roof, repair existing solar panels, or design and install a new system if warranted.
