About the Role

Reporting to the Senior Vice President of Development, the Project Development Manager is responsible for developing commercial and industrial (C&I) solar projects – both Behind the Meter and Community Solar – from proposal request to project sale through a Member Interest Purchase Agreement (MIPA). The Project Development Manager will utilize their technical, financial, and policy knowledge of solar and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), and Pfister’s internal engineering, pre-construction, project finance, and legal teams, to prepare a system design, cost estimate, cash flow analysis, finance options, and proposal for the customer and manage the development of the project through client contracting and MIPA. This individual will manage all aspects of project development and ensure that we are hitting milestones effectively and efficiently.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities

  • Understand relevant state and federal renewable energy incentives and other financial benefits.
  • Evaluate commercial sites to optimize utilization of the roof and property.
  • Review available utility interconnection capacity and assess interconnection feasibility.
  • Analyze the customer’s current electrical utilization and spending.
  • Understand and navigate the project into the optimal solar program strategy (Behind the meter, community solar, etc.) and financing alternatives based on the customer’s goals.
  • Work with the pre-construction and engineering teams to create an optimal design and cost estimate.
  • Work with Pfister’s project finance team to develop financing options including PPA & lease rates.
  • Work with Pfister origination in creating sales proposals, cash flow analysis, reports, and presentations for current and prospective customers that illustrate the financial benefit of installing an onsite solar array.
  • Understand and navigate project feasibility and work with Pfister engineers to manage the structural and electrical engineering analysis, roof feasibility, permitting approvals, design iterations, etc.
  • Understand and manage contractual matters including Development Agreements, Teaming Agreements, Power Purchase Agreements (“PPAs”), Capital Purchase Agreements, Letters of Intent, and Site Leases.
  • Stay informed about industry trends, market conditions, and regulatory changes that may impact project development and finance activities and maintain up-to-date and market-based policy matrix for all active Pfister markets and upcoming markets.
  • Ensure the companies’ project data rooms adhere to the highest standards of excellence in thorough development documentation, organization, file naming, and accuracy.
  • Discover, research, and understand new market opportunities including creating and analyzing new market policy frameworks. 
  • Take the lead on responses to public and private solar and BESS RFPs.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, or energy related field.
  • 4+ years of experience in solar project development, preferably C&I Projects with BESS development experience a plus.
  • Strong understanding of Federal, New England, and Mid-Atlantic State renewable energy policies with a strong desire to expand policy knowledge to new markets.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent analytical skills, with the ability to interpret complex policy and program information and identify key insights.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  • Proficient in Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and CRM software with Smartsheets experience a plus.
