VP of Construction

About the role

The Vice President of Construction is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing the planning, execution, and management of solar energy construction projects with a focus on timeliness, safety, quality, and profitability.  This role offers a dynamic opportunity to lead and contribute to the growth and success of the organization.

Job Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the executive team to set strategic goals and develop project management practices aligned with organizational objectives.
  • Provide expertise and guidance to the business development and estimating team for solar projects.
  • Lead, mentor, and coach construction managers and construction staff to ensure effective performance on project sites.
  • Strategically plan and allocate construction management resources to meet project requirements efficiently.
  • Manage project and risk effectively throughout the execution of solar projects.
  • Foster positive relationships with clients, subcontractors, and other stakeholders to enhance project outcomes.
  • Monitor project spending, schedule adherence, and performance against budget, implementing corrective actions as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with corporate and project policies, recommending optimizations as necessary.
  • Champion a culture of safety, enforcing safety protocols and promptly addressing unsafe conditions or behaviors.
  • Oversee all aspects of management including budgeting, hiring, performance evaluations, scheduling, and disciplinary actions.
  • Facilitate timely construction reporting and integrate with project reports, providing updates to the executive team.
  • Strive to meet or exceed project performance and financial goals.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in heavy industrial construction, with preference for self-performing projects and prior experience in managing renewable energy construction projects, specifically solar.
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities with a track record of effective team management.
  • Proficiency in financial management, including budgeting, financial reporting, and analysis.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in computer software programs including email, word processing, spreadsheets, and project management tools.
  • Team player with positive attitude, able to collaborate effectively with various project stakeholders, both internal and external
  • Organized, dedicated to quality and accuracy.
  • Proven success in project management with a focus on strategic planning and execution.
  • Strong negotiation, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Valid driver’s license.
